Merriment for a cause

Entertainment queen Jhansi had the crowd asking for more at the ‘tambola’ show

Masti unlimited It was an occasion to unwind amidst lively surroundings

It was a weekend packed with lots of fun and frolic. With an exciting game like tambola played amidst lively surroundings, denizens of Guntur city couldn’t have asked for more for a perfect Sunday evening. Noted T.V anchor Jhansi was like the i cing on the cake, energizing the crowds in her inimitable style at the Sudham Convention hall. The venue was transformed into a chill-out zone for a cause, as the organisers intend to use the proceedings of the show to extend financial assistance to the two best outgoing students among the 11 municipal schools in the city.

Fun unlimited

Sponsored by the Rao’s Family Dhaba, the event had members of Rotary Club of Adarsh working relentlessly to draw participation of over 1,000 enthusiasts. The entry ticket was for Rs. 250 while the Tambola ticket was priced at Rs. 25 each. It rained masti and dhoom, besides of course, many surprise gifts and lucky dips that made the winners richer by Rs. 10,000. “It is heartening to see the people of Guntur responding overwhelmingly whenever we take up a good cause,” said an elated Saroja, the past president of the club.

The show began with schoolchildren hitting the dance floor and entertaining the audience with a colourful show of dance, drama and skit. The arrival of Jhansi, the entertainment queen of small screen, greeted with a thumping round of applause. Moving centre stage, the bubbly television anchor gained control over the audience’ pulse within minutes and had the spectators enthralled for almost a couple of hours at a stretch, all by herself.

The ‘Jaldi’ rounds

In the first round, the ‘Jaldi 5’ Jhansi read out numbers with a rollicking dish. Wild shrieks of joy began to emerge from every corner of the hall as she went ahead with the number-reading exercise.

Women took the lead in the winning spree with Bharathi Devi and P. Vijayalakhsmi effortlessly winning the Jaldi `5’ and Jaldi `7’ rounds. In the ‘Jaldi 10’ round however, Satish, a medical doctor by profession, walked away with the prize. A participant Shanta, who won the first house, returned home richer by Rs. 10,000 while others bagged gift vouchers of Rs. 7,500 and Rs. 5,000.

After an entertaining session, the crowd feasted on some of the finest delicacies made available at the venue.
