Boardroom basics

Raja tackles the corporate workforce in ‘Mr. Medhavi’ and announces his entry into Tamil films

For most in the film industry, this is the time to take stock of the hits and misses this year. Actor Raja hopes to wrap up 2007 in style. The last fortnight of December will see him deal with boardroom basics in director Neelakanta’s Mr. Medhavi and then make his debut in Tamil with his film, Kanna.

Mr. Medhavi is one of my best films so far,” says Raja. He has just finished a dubbing session for Mr. Medhavi in the early hours of the day before reporting for his next shooting schedule at the Ramanaidu Studios.

Neelakanta, Raja and Genelia come together for the first time in the film, which progresses in a narrative style with Raja recounting the incidents. “It’s a complex role,” says Raja of his role that departs from that of the squeaky-clean hero. “I am sure every working professional will relate to the characters in the film. Before entering films, I worked with the service industry and have seen how things work.”

Suman plays the role of a chairman of a company and Genelia is his daughter. “Genelia is a sensible actress. After Bommarillu, this is another film for which she should win recognition,” says Raja. Though films dealing with the corporate workforce are not new, Raja feels that Mr. Medhavi will stand on its own for portraying people as they are.

“Intelligence can be a boon or a bane. My character makes use of intelligence to manipulate people and take advantage of situations when necessary. There are shades of grey. To put it simply, the character is close to reality,” he says. Post Anand and Vennela, Raja hopes Mr. Medhavi will be a film to remember. “It is bound to do well at the box office. I had the same intuition about Anand and Vennela and I was proved right,” says the actor who will be seen with Sneha in Nee Sukame Ne Korutunna and in Chandra Siddharth’s Idhi Sangathi new film with Tabu in a supporting role.

Meanwhile, the actor has quietly worked on his first Tamil film, Kanna, due to release on December 21. “The film has come out really well and I am already receiving offers from the Tamil industry,” smiles Raja.
