Tandoori temptations

Savour hearty food from the land of the Punjab at the ongoing Punjabi Dhaba food festival at Luciya Food Court

Spicy and tangy Taste from the clay oven

The typical Punjabi Dhaba, set up in front of Luciya Food Court, beckons you with two sizzling tandoors, colourful Bollywood posters , mouth watering chaat and cool ,delicious lassi topped with fresh malai and a hint of kewra essence to remind you th at the flavour is North Indian all the way!

The Punjabi Dhaba Food Festival which runs through December 30 is a culinary fest especially designed for North Indian foodies.

“With Christmas, New Year and Bakrid round the corner, we wanted to come up with something new and exciting,” remarks Manager Francis. “The demand for Punjabi dishes is great, especially with the IT crowd and North Indians. The predominant taste is ‘chat-pata’, tangy.

Due to the rising demand for North Indian dishes, we brought in three chefs from Delhi and Jammu-Nachekar Singh, Pradeep and Vipin Kumar. The response has been good, with a good turnout, mostly students, IT executives, North Indians and of course, Kochiites.”

Pan-Indian cuisine

Most popular are Tandoori items with a distinctive Punjabi flavour. Bengali dishes and Goan delicacies like the exotic Xacuti De Gaiinha, spicy roasted chicken too find a place in the menu.

A special dish to be savoured is the machi mubarak or tandoori karimeen. The famous mooli paratha made with white radish is a speciality.

Makkai di roti , missi roti, butter chicken, kadai chicken are popular with our clientele, says Francis who has spent over 30 years in the North. There are lots of desi rotis to choose from – missi roti, fresh fruits stuffed Shajahani Nan and gobi paratha .Those with a preference for chawal (rice) can choose between jeera pulao and subzi biriyani. The newly introduced North Indian Thali is a hit being a complete meal in itself , says Mr. Francis. For fish lovers there is patrani machi.

Vegetarians may enjoy Afghani Naan with dry fruits with nawali tharkari paneer, Punjabi dal with a fine blend of rajma and urad. The paneer items like the paneer mushroom masala is as appetising as the rather hot salli murg.

The waiters are friendly, the food is yummy, every glass of water served is boiled or bottled mineral water and the Basmati rice used is of superior quality. The clean surroundings, friendly waiters, delectable food and ample parking space make for a pleasant dining experience.

One cannot leave without ‘just desserts’, be it the popular Mango shrikand or the shahi tukkda, gajar ka halwa served steaming hot is a favourite with diners.

Luciya has arranged for home delivery, from Tripunithura to Aluva and Kalamassery.

Colourful, swanky interiors well lit décor, Bollywood music playing in the background, chefs whipping up the food of your choice behind a glass partition - experience the relaxing ambience at Luciya’s Food Court, Palarivattom.
