Nature and its hues
beautyOne of Vaish’s watercolour works
She seems unspoilt by today’s times. She barely knows any big artist’s name. The only thing that young artist Sandhya R. Vaish says she knows is to draw nature. And her watercolours, many in miniature form and a few in oil on canvas, transport one to beautiful landscapes where the sky meets the earth and splashes myriad hues, where blue water of the river guides you to a lush green forest dotted with deer. In some parts of the landscapes, heavy winds make the blue river shake, trees tremble and misdirect sailors. A few of her works depict the majestic world of high mountains against the morning sky in which a few birds are seen searching for their first feed. Some of her oil on canvas works seem like a journey in a picture-perfect fairy land where birds come closer to you and the waterfall sends shivers. If a few of works are immature, some raise hopes, particularly the small ones. Says Vaish who, to perfect her brush strokes did a one-year diploma in painting from Roorkee, “I never draw from photographs as many nature painters do. I draw from my own imagination.” She says, “I inculcated the habit of drawing from my father. I have always seen him drawing in his leisure time. I would always end up copying his nature drawings in my childhood days. That everyday drawing directed me towards art.” Vaish’s show concluded at All India Fine Arts and Crafts Society this past Sunday.
