A variety of handicrafts and handlooms from all over the country will be on display at a special utsav which opens today at Raja Kalyana Mandapam, 205, Main Road, Velachery.
The highlight of the exhibition is temple art. These beautiful works are crafted by skilled artisans from all over India. Malas in precious and semi precious stones combined with silver are impressive. Also on display are intricately done partitions in sheesham wood, garden chairs and candle stands from Saharanpur, terracotta artefacts from Kolkata, patta painting from Orissa, stone and silk painting. For those interested in accessories, there are one-gram gold jewellery, bangles from Jaipur and fancy bags.
Chikan work dresses from Lucknow, tops from Gujarat, Pochampalli saris from Andhra Pradesh, Kashmiri dress materials and tops, bed linen from Rajasthan add colour to the display. A discount of 10 per cent on handicrafts and up to 20 per cent on handlooms will be given for Christmas and New Year. The exhibition is open between 10 a.m. and 9 p.m. on all days, including Sundays, till December 31.
