Super moms

SOUND OFF! What makes our mothers good at everything, wonders young Ravi Kantharaja

We often speak highly about the heroics of super heroes like Spiderman, Superman, our own Krrish but why do we fail to see a superhero within our moms? Is it because they are always close to us and are easily accessible? Or is it because they canR 17;t fly?! Whatever it is, they stand proven as superheroes.

Bangalore, a city like any other metro, poses numerous challenges to its inhabitants everyday. Even children are not spared. Our moms too face many tasks to accomplish. It is probably this busy, scheduled, packed life that has helped our mothers a great deal in evolving our super moms. Mothers have a great role to play in effectively and efficiently sustaining our families and at the same time maintaining their super mom status. Whether they are aware of the fact of their own super-powers, is a matter of conjecture. Every morning, when I look at my mom working in the kitchen, a strange feeling sets in — a feeling which makes me feel inferior to her in many essential departments. It may be the power of concentration or effective time management, or it may be her skills at the job to be done. Surely, our moms have an unknown power in them, which makes them so special. The saying “the hand that rocks the cradle, rules the world” is testimony to the fact.

When I wonder about the evolution of our moms into such efficient people, I often stand clueless. Is it the tight schedule in a city like ours, or the growing inclination towards the formation of nuclear families, or is it just that it is in their DNA? Whatever the reason, it is high time we realise and accept that there is a super hero in every one of them and give them due credit.

Do you have anything to say? About the state of the world, the city, your angst?

Pen it stylishly and you might get it published. And dash off your piece with your photograph.
