Teeth problems should be referred to a dentist, who will recommend suitable whitening products. Use bicarbonate of soda (baking soda) daily like a tooth powder.

After washing your face, wipe the oily areas with an astringent lotion. Mix rice powder with rose water and apply it on the oily areas. Rub it gently on the skin with circular movements. Leave it on for a few minutes and then wash it off with water.

Mix cucumber and lemon juices in equal quantities and apply it daily on these areas, washing it off after 10 minutes.

Parts of my scalp itch. When I scratch white flakes fall. Is it dandruff? I use shikakai to wash my hair. I also applied lemon on my scalp, but the itching continues. Will vinegar give good results? — Dhivya

Your scalp is dry and you have dandruff. Use less shampoo or shikakai while washing your hair and rinse it well with water. Vinegar not only helps control dandruff but also restores the normal balance of the scalp.

It relieves itching. Apply 2 tbsp of vinegar half an hour before washing your hair. Once a week, heat pure coconut oil or til oil and apply it on the scalp at night, leaving it on overnight. The next morning, apply the vinegar (as advised) half an hour before shampooing.

For oily skin, after washing your face, apply an astringent lotion with cotton wool. Use a facial scrub twice a week.

You can also mix multani mitti, lemon juice and rose water into a paste and apply three times a week. Wash it off when it dries. You can also mix a little honey with lemon juice and apply it daily. Lemon juice helps lighten the complexion over a period of time.

Once or twice a week, mix together curd, honey and egg white with oatmeal into a paste.

Apply it on the face and wash it off after 20 to 30 minutes.

You had suggested that I apply oil and then lemon juice before washing my hair to get rid of dandruff. Can I use a conditioner? Suggest a suitable one. — Vidhya

Creamy conditioners should not be used if you have dandruff. Rinsing the hair helps condition it too. You can mix tea-water and lemon juice and use it as a last rinse after shampooing your hair. Tea water can be made by boiling used tea leaves again. There should be about 4 cups of tea water after boiling. Cool and strain the liquid. Then add the juice of a lemon and use it as a last rinse.
