Discover Ladakh

A special feature on the mountain paradise

MYSTERIOUS AND CHALLENGING The show will give a complete perspective of the place

Discovery Channel presents a show on Ladakh called “Ladakh – the Land of Passes”. “Ladakh – Desert in the Skies” (was telecast on December 15) and “The Forbidden Wilderness” highlight the extraordinary occurrences in the least populated region of India. Ladakh is nestled between the mightiest mountain ranges in the world, the Karakoram in Northwest and the Himalayas in the South.

The secret of Ladakh’s fascination lies in its cultural similarities with Tibet, inaccessibility, land locked lakes, peculiar fauna and flora and scenic splendour as a mountain desert. Ladakh is a region which is both mysterious and challenging. The show present an insight into the civilization, animal life and cultures and give viewers an intriguing perspective of the place.

Produced by the Bedi Brothers, it successfully captures some unique sequences with the snow leopard and Tibetan lynx, perhaps photographed for the first time. With changing seasons, the show portray the villagers’ life and how the sacred Buddhist faith has led to an unusual relationship between man and animal.

The second episode, “The Forbidden Wilderness” will be aired on December 29 at 8 p.m.
