Festive joy Christmas tree and decorations at a shop
Christmas bells are ringing and Santa Claus is on his way with his bagful of gifts before he climbs down the chimneys to drop off the gifts. The joy and festive spirit of the occasion has spread across the city. Soaked in the yuletide spirit, the shoppers are splurging on everything from clothes to shining stars and Christmas trees and food and drinks. Such is the infectious spirit of the season that you start dreaming of snow-covered mistletoes and glistening treetops.
The streets and shops in the city are flooded with brightly shining stars and Xmas bells. Along with roast turkey, plum pudding, holly and ivy sprigs, kissing under the mistletoe and the legend of old St. Nick, choruses of carol singers usher in this season of hope and joy. The celebrations started off days ahead of the festival with Churches and various organisations conducting Christmas carols. Carol singers call on houses, often in the wee hours of the morning, rendering hymns in praise of Jesus Christ. Hotels have come out with exclusive Xmas menus. The Park hotel will have a special X’mas lunch at Aqua on December 25 with a mind-boggling range of delicacies like roast turkey with cranberry sauce, smoked ham with apricot preserve, delicious puddings and a range of salads. There are a host of surprises in store for the visitors.
And for the shoppers, there are plenty of choices as they jostle in the stores to pick up the knick-knacks like snowmen, stars, bells, baubles, mistletoes, streamers and the ubiquitous holly.
All those who are looking for all the paraphernalia to spruce up your Xmas tree or decorate your homes, here’s some new market trends.
Ceramic bells in bright colours can be found at the on-going Gandhi Shilp Bazaar expo at Viswapriya Function Hall. From flaring reds to subtle shades of blues and greens, bells in different shapes find a place here.
X’mas tree
The ubiquitous fir tree has undergone amazing transformations. The market is flooded with varieties of Christmas trees of different sizes. The X’mas trees in town this year range between one foot to nine feet and are priced between Rs.20 to Rs. 4,000, for the undecorated trees. Pre-decorated Christmas trees replete with pines, gifts, bells and mistletoes are also available in a wide vareity.
At Darling’s Paradise, it stands nine-feet tall in all its grandeur welcoming the festival with its shiny exuberance. Shiny metallic bells and vibrant hues of stars adorn the racks of the shop.
Chocolates and candles are one of the coolest options to hit the top list of Christmas gifts. The shop has stocked up the newest designs and novel ideas for decorations.
