“Giligillippu”, a children’s mela, will take place on December 25
|
Kalakshetra and The Aseema Trust jointly host a children’s mela called “Giligillippu” (meaning rattle). Meant for children aged between 8 and 12, it will take place on December 25, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Kalakshetra campus. There
will be story corner, poetry corner, tree walk, palm leaf bird work, knowing about musical instruments such as the veena and the mridangam, clowning with Kalairani, theatre exercises with Prof. Ramanujan, kolattam, knowing about Geography and screening of Satyajit Ray’s film “Goopi Gyne, Bhaga Byne”. The programme will culminate in a procession featuring participants wearing Padayani masks.
Padayani is a ritual dance of Kerala where the participants wearing masks of horses, birds and yakshas come in procession to appease the anger of Bhagavathi. Satyajit Ray’s “Goopy Gyne Bhaga Byne” is a folk tale about two young men who want to sing and drum but have no talent. They are booted out by the king. A ghost who meets them in the forest gives them a boon whereby they can please people with their singing and drumming. The story shows how they stop a war.
The fee is Rs.300, including lunch. Registration is on a first-come-first-served basis.
