Believe me! It’s not easy to make a realistic film and not earn enemies! With Fashion too, many eyebrows in the fashion fraternity are already raised. They are getting scared thinking, pata nahin ye kya dikha dega? (God knows what will he show) It’s not comforting to meet those eyes every day,” says Madhur Bhandarkar about his forthcoming film.

Bar, shallow socialites in Page 3, the underbelly of the business world in Corporate, and ruthless life on a footpath in his last film, Traffic Signal, Madhur is now ready to uncover the “joys and sorrows of the fashion world”.
It is based on an aspiring model’s life, played by Priyanka Chopra. “But it is an emotional love story in which man-to-man relationship is the sub-plot. It will give you a peep into the greenroom politics as also how these beautiful models on the ramp are brought, from where and how? What they have to face when they decide to join the glamour world. It’s about the conflict and dilemma that they undergo, their joys and sorrows, the treachery and the trust and much more. It also would highlight the life of those small-time tailors and embroiderers who have to work day and night for big fashion designers to meet their deadline in the cut-throat competitive world of fashion,” elaborates Madhur.
The filmmaker however likes to stress that the film is not a negative take on the fashion world but a realistic one.
The two should not be confused, he adds. “People have aired rumours about my film. Someone says it is based on Rohit Bal’s story; someone claims it’s a take on Kate Moss’s life; some like to think it is all about model Anjali Nagpal. I am amazed about these claims. I think people know about my film more than I do,” he laughs, adding that he still has to finalise the role of the male characters in the film.
Madhur has done most part of his research in Delhi and has spent a long time with fashion designers Rohit Bal, Renu Tandon, Manav Gangwani and a few others during his frequent trips to the city. So far, he has shot in Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore and Chandigarh. “Because I have a middle class background, I have tried to satisfy the curiosity of the common man about the world of fashion,” he adds.
