For women’s sake

It was an event in celebration of women empowerment. To mark the end of the month-long women empowerment campaign organised by ibibo.com – a social networking website – an interaction was organised with three actors of the super-hit Bolly wood film, Chak De India.

At the event held at New Delhi’s Miranda College, the film’s actors, Vidya Malvade , Shilpa Shukla and our very own Sagarika Ghatke, talked on issues affecting women in the society.

Miranda House students won the chance to meet the stars as the college topped the list for the maximum number of registrants. The primary aim of the ibibo.com initiative was to discover new icons and get them to talk about issues affecting the society.

The actors posed questions to the audience as well as emphasised on the need for women empowerment.

Disparity in the age of marriage for men and women to finding out ways by which the potential of women can be maximised, were all part of the discussion.

Commenting on one of the issue of women bartenders in India, Vidya said, “Women are born free, they can do anything that a man does.” She went on to ask, “Will men ever play second fiddle to women and be a homemaker?”
