YET ANOTHER ON TV Bappi Lahiri will be judging singers in a new reality show
If you are a tele-show addict, then Saturday evenings have something new for you. Sony TV has come up with two new shows, K for Kishore and Chaalbaaz to entertain you on weekends. While the first one is a music
reality show, Chaalbaaz is the Indian version of the American reality show, Prankstar from the house of Endemol India. K for Kishore has already gone on air and will have an episode on Saturday at 9 p.m. Chaalbaaz will be aired every Saturday at 10 p.m. Albert Almeida, Executive Vice-President and Business Head, Sony Entertainment Television, says, “K for Kishore will run for ten weeks with 12 contestants, who will compete to become the closest voice to that of Kishore Kumar.” He says the show will be judged by singer-music director Bappi Lahiri and singer Sudesh Bhonsle, popularly known as the closest voice to Kishore da in playback singing so far. Lahiri and Kishore Kumar together have given Bollywood many hits, including Namak Halal, Chalte Chalte and Sharabi. Talking about the show, Lahiri, says, “It will not be like Indian Idol or any other reality based music programme. Its selection will be based on the total marks given by the judges as well as the audience present in the studio.” Unlike other reality shows, here, the judges and the studio audience will decide the fate of the contestants. The process of elimination will start from the third episode itself.
Cyrus and Sajid
The two judges for Chaalbaaz are the popular MTV veejay, Cyrus Broacha and show anchor-turned-film director Sajid Khan. It is a comedy show and will have 33 contestants, who will put their “mischievous foot” forward. Almeida says, “Each episode will showcase three pranksters, who will pull off their individual prank, followed by a combined prank. Celebrity prank will be an added attraction.” He says, “We believe in bringing to our viewers fresh concepts,” and hopes the channel becomes “truly successful in entertaining its viewers”.
