Malayalam

Malayalam cinema saw a decline in box office collections in 2007, as young audiences seem to prefer Tamil superstar films, Telugu films dubbed into Malayalam and Bollywood films these days. After 17 years at the top, the hold of superstars Mammootty and Mohanlal declined, as their films started failing continuously. Pritviraj is sort of emerging as a big star, especially after the success of his film “Chocolate”. The big mistake made by Malayalam commercial film makers is trying to compete with Bollywood and Kollywood in song picturisation and grandeur, despite their limited budgets. The top five hits this year are “Chocolate”, “Maayavi”, “Hello”, “Vinodayatra” and “Kathaparayumbol”.
