Silence is golden

The two-day Wordless International Short Film Festival begins in the city today

Christmas just got over, but the red and white Santa Claus is here spreading the festive cheer. He is Hitler from the animation film Christmas Hitler which is part of the Wordless International Short Film Festival (WISFF) to kick o ff in the city from today. Conceived by the Australian-based Cinewest and ICYMAN (International Children and Youth Multimedia Access Network), WISFF was created for a global audience in 2005. The first edition was held Maybod (Yazd Province) in Iran in November, 2006. . “WISFF was conceived to cater to young adults but with support from filmmakers, producers and distributors appreciating such thematic merit, we decided to include adult produced works in this initiative. Since there is no spoken or written text in the works, ‘film’ as a visual art medium preserves its own universal language,” said Cinewest artistic director Vahid Vahed ICYMAN - INDIA is organising the second edition on December 29and 30. This year, the festival consists of two categories, as compared to the last edition and will be screening adult produced as well as youth produced works to compete for the best films.

“The Wordless International Short Film Festival is so unique in its approach and concept, that I consider it an honour for Hyderabad to be hosting this event. The objective of the festival is to expose Hyderabadis to different genres of films, ” said festival director Nikhil Acharya.

The festival received nearly 100 works and has selected more than 30 award winning films that represent Asia and Asia Pacific, East and Western Europe, North and South American regions. The films that will be screened are from Germany, the U.K., Brazil, Australia, Canada and Switzerland to name a few. All works screened in 2nd WISFF will be Indian premieres. Awards will be given away to the best films on December 30.

The festival will be held at Prasad’s preview theatre, Road No.2, Banjara Hills from 6 p.m. onwards.
