Actor Mrinalini Sharma on “Showbiz”
|
Upcoming heroine Mrinalini Sharma
A resident of Mumbai, she is originally a Delhiite. “I studied in Jesus and Mary College, Delhi, and started my career in the capital. Since modelling is more to do with fashion in Delhi and I wanted to get into the commercial market, I had to
shift to Mumbai,” says Mrinalini Sharma, who stars in the film “Showbiz”.
If acting in the video of Lucky Ali’s “Gori Teri Aankhen” got her the initial recognition, dancing to the tunes of “Aaoji Babu” in Prakash Jha’s Apaharan secured her entry into Bollywood.
About the storyline of Showbiz, directed by Raju Khan, Mrinalini says, “I play one of the heads of a TV channel, which hosts a reality show. I also play the love interest of the hero. The film deals with the dark side of show business. Mahesh Bhatt saw my profile and I was selected after an audition.”
And the interesting part is she was auditioned by none other than her co-star and debutant Tushar Jalota who was working as an assistant director with the Bhatts. “It was funny. After I got selected for the role, I was curious to know who my co-star was. I cannot forget the sheepish look on Tushar’s face, when he told me it was him,” she laughs.
But interestingly, for someone who was actually supposed to debut with Showbiz, how did she land the role of Reema, a Pakistani girl in the film Awarapan?
“Oh! That’s a story to tell. Showbiz got delayed as the script wasn’t completed. That’s when I met director Mohit Suri who felt I fitted the bill. It was also a Bhatt production so I agreed.”
What about the three-film contract with the Bhatt camp?
“I have done two films, the third one will happen as and when a suitable script is ready. But from 2008 I am free to check out other offers,” she says.
