Ring in New Year with a bang

City hotels have laid out the works to ring in the New Year

This time it is going to be a difficult choice of where to spend New Year ’s Eve. A thoroughly family oriented night minus liquor is what Presidency has to offer. Aimed primarily at couples and children, the hotel hosts an exclusive buffet, l ive music, magic show, games, and gifts.

The live orchestra will entertain with old and new Hindi, Tamil and Malayalam songs. The charge is Rs. 1,500 per couple, while children are charged half the rate. Avenue Regent will host two events, one at Loungevity and the other at Springs. The highlight of the Loungevity event will be DJ Shekar. Entry is restricted for couples through coupons worth Rs. 2,500 plus taxes. A live band will keep the spirits soaring at Springs. A lavish buffet will cost Rs. 1,100 plus taxes. A live music performance by Chitra Iyer, the presence of Russian DJ Guru and Bollywood dance sequences will bring the Amphitheatre at Le Meredien alive. The rate is Rs. 1,600 per person and Rs. 800 for a child between 4-12 years. The candlelight dinner with European music at the same hotel will cost a neat Rs. 2,500 plus taxes per person without alcohol and Rs. 3,000 plus taxes with unlimited beer and wine. Of course, both restaurants will feature elaborate buffets.

Gokulam Park will celebrate with an interactive cooking session where the guests get to chat with chefs and also get dishes prepared on the spot. An elaborate spread with specialities like roast turkey and roast lamb for the main course and blueberry cheesecake and classic apple strudel with cinnamon sauce is priced at Rs. 2,500 plus taxes per couple.

A spectacular poolside dinner with multi-cuisine fare while you watch enchanting Mohiniattam, Kathakali, Kolkali, acrobatics, fire dance, keep rhythm with Singarimelam, laugh with a mimics parade, is what Mermaid Hotel offers this New Year eve. Another attraction will be the rocking performance of Filipino female trio band. The entry is strictly for couples. Travancore Court will offer an exciting buffet priced at Rs. 500 plus tax per person.

New Year bash ‘Knight Life’ is Casino’s offering. There is good food, accompanied by some comic relief afforded by ‘Hamlet the Original Spoof,.DJ Gautam and Kerala drummers will together take care of the rhythm. International or domestic air fare, two nights-three day vacations make the prizes worth coveting. The charge is Rs. 5,000 per couple.

Trident Hilton plays host to a Caribbean buffet at Travancore. The price is Rs. 1,788 per couple. Abad Plaza’s all three restaurants charge Rs. 350 per person for their exotic New Year buffets.

At Renaissance the New Year bash will be held at the Colosseum and the rates are Rs. 3,500 plus taxes for couples, Rs. 2,000 for adults and Rs. 1000 for children.

Taj Residency will usher in 2008 with the three-member Philippino Band, ‘Lady Bird’, international dance performers with four sizzling numbers and a DJ at the Bubble Cafe. The entry is priced at Rs. 9999 per couple, inclusive of taxes with unlimited food and imported beverages. Taj Malabar offers you a New Year steeped in the history of Willingdon Island. There is Champagne toast, Victorian horse carriage ride, vintage cars of the British Raj and a live band group to serenade you into the New Year.
