Actress Mrinalini Sharma on “Showbiz”
|
All Geared up Mrinalini Sharma
Sitting in a sunny corner of Zaffran restaurant in the Capital, actress Mrinalini Sharma loves the warmth of the sun as much as she loves being in the limelight. “Now I know why I left Delhi. I could never handle winters,” she quips.
A resident of Mumbai now, Mrinalini is originally a Delhiite. “I have done my studies here. I even started my career here. But in Delhi, modelling is more to do with fashion. But I wanted to get into the commercial market and Mumbai is the destination for it,” says the alumna of Jesus and Mary College. If acting in the video of Lucky Ali’s “Gori Teri Aankhen” got her the initial recognition, by dancing to the tunes of “Aaoji Babu” from Prakash Jha’s Apaharan she made her way into Bollywood.
New film
In town to promote her new film, Showbiz, directed by Raju Khan, Mrinalini shares the story line, “I play one of the heads of a TV channel, which hosts a reality show. I also play the love interest of the hero. The film deals with the dark side of show business. Mahesh Bhatt saw my profile and I was selected after an audition.”
And the interesting part is that she was auditioned by none other than her co-star and debutant Tushar Jalota who was working as an assistant director with the Bhatts. “It was funny. After I got selected for the role, I was curious to know who my co-star was. I cannot forget the sheepish look on Tushar’s face, when he told me it’s him,” she breaks into laughter.
But interestingly, for someone who was actually supposed to debut with Showbiz, how did she hit upon the role of Reema, a Pakistani girl in the film Awarapan? “Oh! That’s a story to tell. Showbiz got delayed as the script wasn’t completed.
That’s when I met director Mohit Suri who felt I fitted the bill. It was also a Bhatt production so I agreed.” What about the three-film contract with the Bhatt camp? “I have done two films, the third one will happenas and when a suitable script is ready. But from 2008 I am free to check out other offers,” she explains.
