Voice Your Views: New Year Resolution

They said it

Dreams into reality

Resolutions have been part of New Year celebrations since ancient days. Purpose of making a resolution is to begin the year with focused goals and firm commitments. Resolutions usually relate to health, finance or personal life. This concept works well with Indians as we wait for an auspicious day to start new things. But many of us forget about the resolution in a week or two. Remember resolutions that are kept sincerely till the yearend turn dreams into reality. So keep trying and reward yourself in 2009.

Better life

A sure way to help poor families improve their economic status is to provide good education to their children. While the Government’s initiatives are there, the task can be achieved only by active participation of citizens better placed in life. I will dedicate myself in 2008 to carry out a sustained campaign to help the deprived children get good education.

A promise kept

Resolution means making up one’s mind to do something or get rid off a harmful habit. Often people take a vow easily and break it within no time. I have seen habitual drinkers and alcoholics resolve to break the habit. Without will and determination, taking a resolution is futile. As an adult, I had made several New Year resolutions, such as to give up smoking. But never kept them. Eventually, when I suffered a heart attack and doctors insisted I quit smoking, I stopped when my wife told me to make a New Year resolution having in mind the welfare of the family. I quit and still keep the promise.
