Time for peace
With her back to the world, her woman lays content. She has already climbed the ladder of success. Her men too, though few and far between, relax bareback. All is well in the world for her figures. Especially, female forms in her oil and acrylic work
s. They embody peace and tranquillity while enveloped in sparking hues of red and green, blue and crimson. Her figures don’t face the viewer. So they don’t get to know their moods. She finds depiction of moods “complicated.” But their reclined or meditative postures give out their contentment with the world.
These ‘satiated’ figures even in the modern times are the brush products of Anita Trehan, a pupil of Rameshwar Broota and a qualified interior designer. Anita’s works are on display at Triveni Art Gallery till January 6. Anita, who was born in Afghanistan, migrated to India when she was barely five. “We had a good business there but there were no good schools. Afghanistan of those days (around late 1960s) was picturesque and peaceful. I have faint memories of its beauty and my home,” recalls the artist who pursued interior design for a profession while art remained her passion. Unable to pursue even interior designing after her marriage and family, she felt a void. So, after being absolved of day-to-day house responsibilities, she went to renowned artist and the Head of the Department, Triveni Kala Sangam, Rameshwar Broota and urged him to train her. Now she is moving towards abstract.
