A milestone Impressive show

For over 75-weeks now, ‘Neeya Naana,’ a chat show on Vijay TV, has been one of the most popular programmes.

It’s anchor Gobinath attributes the success of the show to its originality.

“We never rehearse before the programme because we want it to be spontaneous. Once rehearsed, an auto-man might try to talk like an executive and originality what we are expecting might be lost,” Gobinath says.

The topics chosen for discussion, on most occasions, are not serious.

“Many may feel whether topics like ‘Bike Freaks,’ or ‘What’s in a name’ are worth discussing. They definitely are. The show turned out to be a hit as we talked about issues relating to day-to-day life,” he says.

Research work

Gobinath adds that a lot of research is done on the topic of discussion and that the homework helps him while emceeing. “Our team extensively studies the subject.

Lot of people appreciated our topic selection, which is indeed pleasing.”

Another highlight of the show is the selection procedure of the participants. They are not chosen based on their language prowess or communication skills.

“We assess how relevant they are to the topic and pick accordingly. ‘Neeya Naana’ is not an elocution competition, hence we do not want talented orators, but those who can speak their heart out,” he details.

Gobinath was all praise for the show’s director Antony and says that they enjoy a special chemistry.

“He plays a vital role behind the screen. We communicate through the ear phone during shows and his tips are very useful,” he says.

Reasoning out

Since stress is on originality, then why not air the show live?

“Our team feels participants many not be comfortable during live telecast. They may get nervous or camera conscious and not be able to deliver their best.”

Gobinath who anchored ‘Neeya Naana,’ New Year special programme, featuring 40 well-known personalities from various fields including cinema, politics, media, medicine, says it was an enjoyable experience.

“When we started the show, I never thought it would be such a grand success. Crossing 100-episodes in such a competitive scenario will be a great achievement,” he says.
