Labour rights

The implementation of National Rural Employment Guarantee Act in some districts of rural Tamil Nadu had a positive impact on employment and wages of women agricultural workers. This apart, the picture of women workers is particularly grim. In 2008, the challenge is to get better wages and working conditions. Particularly important, is higher hourly minimum wages for women workers, across industries and sectors. The Government should also recognise trade unions and the right to organise.
