New poets


We have seen many new young, Tamil, women poets this year. Publishers are still hesitant to publish poetry because the Government has started discouraging public libraries from accepting them, because many people have started writing poetry. Women poets who write accepting the patriarchal structure are read in lakhs, but women who challenge it, only in thousands. In 2008, I hope more women will be encouraged to write, and new voices heard. We should find good platforms for reading and writing poetry.
