Ghostly stories

Goethe-Zentrum Coimbatore will screen German movie Gespenster

It was while travelling through the Ardennes region of France that director Christian Petzold came across posters with photographs of girls who had been reported missing. The pictures were the last ones taken before they disappeared.

Something about the haunting quality of the pictures inspired him to make the German film, Gespenster (Ghosts). The film, made in 2005, deals with loss and yearning. Its characters, in the process of always longing for a different reality, lose touch with the existing one. The feature film stars Claudia Geissler, Philipp Hauß, Victoria von Trauttmansdorff, Julia Hummer, Sabine Timoteo, Anna Schudt, Marianne Basler, Benno Fürmann and Aurélien Recoing.

Gespenster will be screened by the Goethe-Zentrum, Coimbatore on January 12 at 6 p.m. The venue is President Hall, Geedee Auditorium, Avanashi Road. Entry is free, but restricted to those over 16 years of age.
