What is the best way to store lipsticks? One of my friends keeps lipsticks in the fridge. Is this correct? HM

Lipsticks can be kept in the refrigerator in summer. It’s a good idea to put all your lipsticks in a plastic bag with a zip lock. Lip pencils should be kept with caps on. Lip brushes should be washed, along with other make-up brushes two or three times a month. If the lipstick loses its fragrance and there is a rancid smell, it should be discarded.

I have a receding hairline. Though my hair is growing, can you give tips to accelerate its growth?Yamnit

Avoid tying the hair back tightly, as this can cause stress and result in receding hairline. Heat olive oil or til oil and apply once or twice a week. Avoid vigorous massage or rubbing. You can apply a herbal hair tonic daily on the scalp. Diet is very important. Have a small bowl of sprouts daily and include fresh fruits, salads, leafy green vegetables, soyabean and curd in your diet. Ask your doctor to prescribe vitamin and mineral supplements.

My facial skin is sagging. During winter it becomes very dry. How can I make my skin look younger and smooth? Sujatha

Avoid soap and use a cleansing gel or cream. Mix honey with milk and egg yolk. You can add almond oil instead of egg yolk, if you wish. Apply daily for 15 minutes. Wash off with plain water. At night, apply a nourishing cream and massage it on the skin for a few minutes. Wipe off with moist cotton wool before bedtime. Apply sunscreen before going out in the sun and keep the skin well moisturised when you are indoors. Mix together 4 teaspoons oatmeal with one teaspoon each of orange juice, honey, curd and egg yolk and apply twice a week, wash off after 20 minutes.

Is it true that turmeric powder makes teeth whiter? Vishnu

I do not know if turmeric makes the teeth whiter, but you can take a little bicarbonate of soda (baking soda) and rub it on the teeth daily, like a tooth powder. See if it helps. You can also ask a dentist to suggest a teeth whitener. Also, if the teeth are yellow or discoloured, you should visit a dentist.

My hair is dry and I have split ends. Suggest a home remedy. Suganya

Cutting off the split ends is the only remedy. Then take proper and regular care of your hair. Twice a week heat pure coconut oil and apply on the scalp and hair. Leave overnight. Use a mild herbal shampoo. After shampoo, apply a creamy conditioner, taking less quantity and massaging it lightly into the hair. Apply on ends too. Leave on for 2 minutes and rinse off with plain water. You can also mix almond oil with egg yolk and apply on the hair. Wash the hair after an hour.

My face looks oily and dull. Suggest a natural remedy. Sasirekha

After washing the face, apply an astringent lotion using cotton wool. Or, mix rose water and cucumber juice in equal quantities and apply on the face, washing it off after 15 minutes. Mix multani mitti with rose water into a paste and apply three times a week, washing it off when it dries. Twice a week, mix 3 teaspoons oatmeal with one teaspoon each of honey, curd and egg white. Apply on the face and wash it off after half an hour.
