Simi turns judge!

The woman in white, Simi Garewal, who shared the deepest secrets of celebrities on television, as a host, now appears in a totally new avatar.

Simi is all set to judge an exciting new musical entertainer “Say Shaava Shaava”, set to start at the end of the month on the soon-to-be launched NDTV Imagine.

Joining her in this fun-filled celebration as a co-judge is ace director and TV host, Karan Johar.

Together they will judge the singing capabilities of soap stars such as Aman Verma, Apurva Agnihotri, Divyanka Tripathi, Juhi Parmar, Mannish Goel, Mouni Roy, Narayani Shastri, Pulkit Samrat and Sumeet Raghvan.

About her new role as judge, a jubilant Simi said: “I am delighted to be associated with NDTV Imagine and its new musical show. It’s the first time I will be a judge on a TV show. It sounds like a whole lot of fun!”

Image trap

In Kollywood, a superstar’s on-screen image is what works with the fans.

A recent study by a market research team has found that on Tamil television too the image of the protagonists (all women) is what attracts eyeballs.

Recently, Kalaignar TV tried to take on the market leader, Sun TV’s 9.30 prime time ‘number one’ serial, Radhika’s “Arasi”, with Kushboo’s “Namma Kudumbum” . However, Radhika’s larger-than-life mother and daughter act in “Arasi” has bagged the top slot in TRP ratings.

Says a leading market consultant: “Over the years, Radhika has portrayed a no-nonsense tough talking woman who triumphs against all odds. This factor has endeared her to the women who watch television soaps. Yet, when she tried to play a coy and submissive housewife in ‘Kannamoochi Yaenada’, she was not accepted.”

He adds: “Similarly, Khushboo has a different image as the friendly and fashionable hostess of the game show ‘Jackpot’ (Jaya TV). But, this went totally against the character she played in ‘Namma Kudumbum’. In soaps, which depend entirely on women, the viewer is rooted to the character’s image and it is better that it is not tinkered with.”
