Winning ideas
Renault Design and automobile magazine, Autodesk has just announced the winners of its Auto Design Competition. Mousumi Biswas from National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad, has been announced the first winner at an event in New Delhi. Biswas derived her concept from khadi fabric. The second and the third position went to Shailendra Petwal and Ramesh Gound respectively. Saurabh Karwal was announced the runner-up.
The jury to select the winners included Patrick Le-Quement, Senior Vice President, Corporate Design, Renault, Mel Nichols, Editorial Director of Haymarket Media in the U.K., Dilip Chhabria, Chairman and MD , DC Design, Patrick Lecharpy, Director, Advanced Design, Renault, Ritu Kumar, fashion designer and Managing Director, Ritika Private Limited, and Sangita Shroff, Director, Indian Institute of Crafts and Design, Jaipur.
The contest theme, “What is Modern India Design?” was open to only Indian students. As many as 77 students from 12 institutes took part in the contest. Through various stages of elimination, 11 of them were short listed. The designs cues were centric to certain areas like aesthetics, use, etc. Ashish Sinharoy, Vice President, Communications and Public Affairs, Renault India, said, “The winners will enjoy a three month internship at the Renault Design India Centre in Mumbai”. He said that the company will launch its next car in about 2-3- months.
