Dreams come true

Debutant Nikhil Dwivedi has his heart set on acting with the best in the industry

Rising star Nikhil Dwivedi

For this 30-year-old aspiring actor, ‘the big break’ has finally come. Touted as one of the most exciting new acting talents on the block, Nikhil Dwivedi spills the beans just before his debut film, My Name is Anthony Gonzal vez, hits screens on January 11.

Hailing from a middleclass family from Uttar Pradesh, Nikhil always wanted to become an actor. He never knew how it would come, but he always felt it was his destiny to become a film star.

With no formal training whatsoever , it was his hunger to make it big in the film world that has landed him this new opening in life. “I owe this success of mine to director E. Niwas, who has taken my raw zeal and shaped it into what I am now,” says Nikhil.

In fact, some two years ago, when E. Niwas offered him a seven or eight minute role in a movie, Nikhil is said to have turned down the offer, because he thought it was “insignificant” and wouldn’t fulfil his dream of becoming a movie star.

Subsequently, Nikhil landed a role in E. Niwas’ movie because of his performance in an audition, where candidates were asked to enact Mark Antony’s famous speech from Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar, in a Maharastrian dialect.

My Name is Anthony Gonzalvez, is about a simpleton named Anthony whose dream it is to become a movie star.

There lies the ironic similarity between Nikhil Dwivedi and Anthony Gonzalvez! The movie is about friendship, dreams being realised and standing on your own feet - something that this fresh face believes he has learned. The movie, two years in the making, has seen Nikhil move on in life. An MBA graduate from Symbiosis, Nikhil was on his own feet, well placed with an MNC. But as fate would have it, he had to change his station in life to make his dreams materialise.

Asked how life has changed with showbiz, the rookie nonchalantly shrugs his shoulders and says: “not much, I’m still the same person and I intend to stay this way.”

Growing up, Dwivedi idolised the Big B and today has lofty aspirations because of his hero.

All rookies are expected to have the jitters, but not this one it seems. “I’m really excited rather than nervous, because I have no expectations to live up to and I’ll take what ever response comes my way,” says Dwivedhi. Starring opposite Amrita Rao in his debut, Nikhil says he looks forward to act with more of the crème de la crème of Bollywood in the upcoming offers he has in his kitty even before his debut.
