Tit for tat
Racism is an ugly slur on the gentleman’s game of cricket. From time immemorial, Asian cricketers have been at the receiving end with teams from Australia and England. And even top stars in the side are not spared. Our cricketers have suffered in silence on the twin problems of racism and sledging from the Aussies. It is only after the Aussies were paid back in their own coin they whine like babies and have resorted to cheap gimmicks like the present allegation of racism against Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh. With not even a shred of evidence to fall back upon, except the predictable and biased deposition of some Australian cricketers, the match referee has given a farcical ruling. The BCCI’s strident stand is a welcome move. It should, in close coordination with other Asian cricket boards, evolve a mechanism to deal with the menace of racism.
