My hands, especially my legs are dry and scaly. Suggest a home remedy. - Ramya
First, consult a dermatologist, because there are some skin conditions where there is excessive dryness and scaling. Heat til oil and massage it daily on the arms and legs before a bath. Avoid soap.
Just wipe your arms and legs with a moist towel. Or, use a mild glycerine soap. Avoid very hot water for bathing. Immediately after a bath, apply a body lotion or cream while the skin is still damp. This helps to seal in the moisture.
My hair looks dull even after it is shampooed. Suggest a suitable remedy and diet. — Aarti
Wash your hair three times a week using less shampoo. After shampooing it, rinse it with tea-water and lemon juice. To make tea-water, boil used tea leaves again in enough water. After boiling, you should have 4 to 5 cups of water. Cool and strain the liquid. Then add the juice of a lemon and use it as a last rinse. Include fresh fruits, raw salads, sprouts and yoghurt in your daily diet. Drink 6 to 8 glasses of water daily.
How do I get rid of facial hair?
— Naz
There is no home remedy for your problem. Home remedies are said to discourage (lessen) facial hair growth if used regularly over a period of time. Try any of the following remedies that would discourage facial hair growth. Make a thick paste of sugar, lemon juice and water and apply it in the direction of the hair growth.
Wash it off when it dries. Apply it once or twice a week. Or, make a paste of turmeric powder and milk and rub it on the skin with a circular motion. It is said to discourage facial hair, but it may make the skin look yellowish.
I am 13 and have cracked heels.
— Priya
At bedtime, soak your feet for 20 minutes in warm water to which coarse salt and shampoo have been added. Scrub your heels with a help of a pumice stone or scrubber to remove the dead cells. Avoid metal scrubbers. After washing your feet, massage them with a rich moisturising cream or vaseline. Bandage the heels with a clean cloth or cotton wool and surgical gauze. Then wear cotton socks and go to sleep. Repeat this every night for one week. If the cracks pain or bleed, consult a doctor.
I am 40 and have blackheads on my forehead and cheeks. Can I have blackheads at my age? — Vidya
Yes, blackheads can occur at a later age, due to a build up of dead cells. Hardened oil gets trapped in the pores, leading to blackheads.
Use a facial scrub on these areas three times a week. Rub it gently on the skin with circular movements and wash it off with water. Or, mix oatmeal with egg white into a paste and apply it on the blackhead prone areas three times a week. Wash it off when it dries.
