National Geographic Channel and Lufthansa is offering virtual expedition around the world with the Indian version of the internationally acclaimed quiz show – ‘Lufthansa Nat Geo Genius’. Hosted by actor and director, Rajat Kapoor, Lufthansa Nat Geo Genius will be telecast every Saturday at 9 p.m. from January 19 onwards.
In this quiz show, three contestants will take a predetermined route around the globe to answer questions based on the countries they travel through and earn miles. Each correct answer will move the expedition to the next destination along the route.
The person who clocks the maximum amount of miles in an episode will be announced as the winner that week. Eighteen weekly winners will then compete in the subsequent rounds followed by two semi-finals and the grand finale to find the first Indian Lufthansa Nat Geo Genius.
Lufthansa and Nat Geo have also planned an innovative viewer engagement program where viewers can participate in this game by sending the word ‘LUFT’ through short message service (SMS) to 57827 and win gifts from Lufthansa every week. National Geographic Channel has also created an interactive microsite to promote the show. The Polo Club at The Oberoi is hosting “Grills and Wraps” from January 23 to 30 from 6.30 p.m. to 11 p.m. Choices in grills vary from barbequed tenderloin skewers with smoked pineapple salsa to cilantro crusted prawn with Thai raw papaya salad or a sabzi seekh for the Indian palate. There is also a milieu of wraps to choose from like Persian lamb kebab in pita bread with labneh and Mexican vegetable fajita with guacamole. Blue Ginger at Taj West End is promoting Imperial cuisine from the Vietnamese region Hue. Dishes include peppery chicken soup with lotus seeds (sup ga), crisp, golden brown spring rolls (nem ran), delicate rice flour patties stuffed with minced shrimp (banh hue), delicious crab claws stuffed with pork (cau phich bot), and the famous minced shrimp wrapped around sugar cane (cha tom lui mia). Main dishes include fish grilled in banana leaf (ca nuong la chuoi), rice with vegetables (com hue), and the rice dessert, which comes in a perfectly formed little box made from banana leaf. Dockers San Francisco and The Bangalore School of Music presents a Hungarian jazz concert with two pianos, a sax and percussion. The concert will feature renowned Hungarian artistes George Vukan, Bela Szakcsi Lakatos and the Dresch Quartet. This concert will take place on January 20 at 7 p.m. at The Guru Nanak Bhavan, Vasanthnagar. George Vukan, graduated from the Ferenc Liszt Academy as a classical pianist in 1960. Four years later he received his degree in dentistry (which he still practices). Taking time off from his surgery he has been a concert pianist for over 40 years. At first he performed classical music but later jazz came to dominate his output.
Pianist, Bela Szakcsi Lakatos immediately caught the attention of the British critics when he played with Arnie Somogyi’s ten-piece band ‘Improvokation’ at the Cheltenham Jazz Festival. African-American jazz but springs from a totally different root.
