Spicing up the city

Radio Mirchi 98.3 FM is all set to create waves amongst listeners, says Liza George

Wake-up Thiruvananthapuram RJ Vishnu

They have set the other cities ablaze with their music laced with humour and gossip. Adding a dash of spice to the city is Radio Mirchi 98.3 FM. With the latest in Mollywood music that will be hosted by their madcap Radio Jockeys (RJ), Radio Mirchi is all set to create waves.

“Keralites enjoy music, an area we specialise in. The culture of tuning in to the radio during the day is also alive here. All the programmes are in Malayalam and are targeted at the youth,” says Nidhi Sudhan, programming head, Radio Mirchi 98.3 FM, Thiruvananthapuram.

The RJs, according to Krishna Menon, station head, Radio Mirchi 98.3 FM, Thiruvananthapuram are all from the city. “We wanted people who know the city in an out and can speak the lingo, someone the listeners can relate to and jell well with. It will be like hearing from an old friend.”

Devotional strains

So, start your day with devotional strains on ‘Morning Raagam,’ while RJ Vishnu has you all charged up for the day with some foot-tapping numbers on ‘Hello Thiruvananthapuram.’ “It will be mad fun on the show. Not only will there be rocking numbers, there will also be discussions on topics ranging from cricket to the reviews of the latest Malayalam movies. Listeners can call in and air their views on the topic for the day, but it will be all light hearted, nothing serious,” says RJ Vishnu.

If it’s house-hold tips or a filling in of an episode of a serial that you missed, then tune into RJ Tinku on ‘Ladies Colony.’ “This programme is for women only, men are barred from tuning in,” says Nidhi with a grin as she adds, “But then I’m sure the programme will entice men to listen out of curiosity.”

‘Mollywood Matinee’ is for the college crowd as it blends news from Mollywood with news from the campuses around the city.

‘Bumper 2 Bumper’ is a wacky take on the day-to day happenings in the city and around the world. “This is for those who enjoy listening to the radio while on their way home from work. Music will be a highlight of this show,” says Nidhi.

Those who believe old is gold ought to tune into ‘Bellbottoms’ hosted by DJ Hari as he takes listeners down memory lane with yesteryear tunes as ‘Dr. Love’ offers advice and solutions to those in love or want out of love.

About the line-up of shows, Krishna Menon says signing off: “The programmes are a good mix of music and news. There will be updates on the traffic, weather, local happenings et al. We aim at capturing the sounds, sights and essence that is Thiruvananthapuram.”
