Breakfast at Swagath, Comfort Inn, every Sunday to enjoy the opulent spread

Sunday special The menu has both Keralite and Continental dishes

It’s a hearty breakfast at Swagath, Comfort Inn, every Sunday. A luxurious spread, it is perfect for those who start their Sundays on a lazy note.

My friend and I seat ourselves at a table. A waiter asks if we would like a glass of rose milk or pineapple juice. While I ask for a pineapple juice, my friend asks for the former. Refreshed, we decide to check out the spread.

Keralite menu

A typical Keralite menu, the breakfast buffet has everything to make it a gastronome’s delight. I decide to start off light with an uttapam; its decorated topping of a slice of tomato in the centre reminds me of tiny pizzas available in bakeries. It goes well with the tangy tomato chutney.

A live counter serving fluffy appams and crisp dosas has my friend and I ordering an appam each. With a choice of kadala curry and vegetable stew, I choose kadala as my friend fills her plate with the stew.

The kadala curry is mildly spiced and my friend points out that the stew has a variety of vegetables in it and not just a measly vegetable or two. Kappa and mollagu chutney have my friend asking for seconds.

Chef Raghavan who overlooks the Kerala cuisine insists we have a masala dosa with his secret chutney podi. With a crisp layering and moist filling of mashed potatoes and onions laced with a dash of salt and pepper, it is scrumptious.

Pooris, idiyappam, pongal and puttu are some of the other dishes available.

Those who prefer a continental breakfast can pick from the various cereals – cornflakes, chocoflakes… Toast and marmalade are available too.

For dessert, we heap our plates with fresh cuts of fruits. A cup of strong coffee polishes our breakfast. Priced at Rs. 90 for each person, the breakfast buffet is from 8 a.m. to 11.30 a.m.
