Night of verses

Ashok Vajpeyi has come up with a new collection of poems

Noted Hindi poet and critic, Ashok Vajpeyi has come up with a new collection of poems, “Dukh Chitthirasa Hai”. The collection was released by celebrated artist Syed Haider Raza on the occasion of Vajpeyi’s 67th birthday. Along with it, a collection of Vajpeyi’s love poems, “Eternity Takes Time” was also released. “Dukh Chitthirasa Hai”, which literally means suffering is a postman, is a collection of Hindi poems whereas “Eternity Takes Time” contains English translations of nearly 100 poems. The translations are by K.B. Vaid, Teji Grover and Arlene Zide.

“Dukh Chittirasa Hai” encompasses human relationships, love, desire and failure and social reality of our times. The poems chosen in “Eternity Takes Time” are reflections on feelings of love and desire. Reciting some of the poems from his latest book, the Sahitya Akademi Award winner explained that he had some differences with his father during his youth. Highlighting the poem based on those emotions, he said that particular poem was closest to him.

He also recited poems centred on his granddaughter and many other fascinating works like “Chidiya ki prarthana”, “Der se”, etc.

Mirror works

One fascinating aspect of this event was the exhibition of mirror works entitled “Kavyadarpan” by artists Siraj Saksena, Mohan Malviya, Hukumlal Verma and Amit Gupta.

Saksena said it was the first time they had created mirror work based on the lines of a poem.
