But nowadays, homes are designed in utmost contemporary fashion with a penchant for traditional decor where colourful soft furnishings have made its way home easily. Depending on the structure of your home along with the furniture placed, linen can be picked uon theme basis or can be played in contrast or the mix and match game.
For all those young people who are designing their new homes, it’s time to celebrate your style, express oneself and make home a comfortable reflection of one’s style. If you miss the home mom created, well here is your chance to create your own. Such classy linen can be used to design a master bedroom or in a living room.
Giving us a few tips on how to decorate your home with linen, interior designers Neera and Kamini Gulati advise: “For homes with old interiors or not really done up to the mark, one can still make their house look beautiful by changing soft furnishings, like sofa upholstery, curtains and bedspreads, cushion etc that give an entirely new look and feel in the house.
Right shades
Depending on the structure of the home, light facility, size and own preferences, one can choose the colours like warm or cool colours and textures for furnishings. Generally light colours like baby pink, green yellow, grey, light sand brown are expansive and airy, while dark colours like black, hot red, dark blue are sophisticated and warm. A lot of floral prints are making it big this season that are available in all shades.”
The best way to enhance the aesthetic value of the room is by adding extra cushions on your bed that has a mix of different prints with different hues. Keep in mind that the cushions must vary in size and shape to add bright energy and also sustain the visual interest.
Since linen is elegant, beautiful and durable, the refined luxury fabric is the strongest of the vegetable fiberes and has two to three times the strength of cotton. Picking the right linen can get tricky.
The best way to choose the right linen for your home is by coordinating the linen to the interiors of the room or for area the linen is being bought for. There are two ways again in this process, you select the linen say bedcovers, sheets pillows, cushions etc all in the same family(matching colours) that is on the furniture walls etc or a complete contrast that really depends upon the taste of the individual.
The advantage of decorating home with linen is that it creates a specific mood to a specific ambience. For example, when you go to sleep it gives you a sense of warmth and comfort, also the whole ambience per say contributes to the relaxation mood.
Maintaining the finest linen can get tough. The golden rule is to follow the wash care instructions and the major role is the detergent being used.
Detergents without optical brighteners should as they affect the life of the product and temp of water should be controlled as it varies from fibre to fibre.
Keeping its aesthetic value in mind, linen tablecloths and napkins can also act like gifts that can be handed down from generations to generations.
