On a mission

Vasundhara Das on ‘Mission Ustad’ and more

Thanks to reality shows, these days, the entire music industry wants to be seen on television.

How can Vasundhara Das, who is known to pick and choose her ‘roles’ judiciously, be one among them?

A participant in Mission Ustad on 9X where she teams up with Mohit Chauhan to create compositions, Vasundhara avers she in not in the show to be in the limelight. “I have never done that. It is just that the show has a social purpose and challenges me as a musician. It pushes the boundaries of creativity.”

The show was launched in partnership with the United Nations to highlight the eight Millennium Development Goals earmarked as part of the United Millennium Campaign in 2002.

With an eminent jury including A.R. Rahman and Javed Akhtar, and participants like Kailash Kher, who also likes to speak out his mind, lots of editing must be going on.

Vasundhara is more of a twinkling star. She impressed us with her performance in films like Hey Ram and Monsoon Wedding only to disappear.

She made us rock with songs like “Shakalaka Baby” and “It’s the time to disco”, only to vanish again. Not to talk about her growing size! Isn’t she ambitious?
