Soni on song



Ashish Soni

The Fashion Design Council of India has got itself a new president. After veteran Ritu Kumar, the Council will now be headed by Ashish N. Soni. The designer, who has showcased at the New York Fashion Week three consecutive times, was elected by the new FDCI board of governors. Soni was elected by a board comprising designers David Abraham, Monisha Jaising, Rocky S, Anjana Bhargava, Bobby Grover, Jattin Kochhar, Karuna Khaitan, Manish Arora, Manoviraj Khosla, Niki Mahajan, Pali Sachdev, Paras Bairoliya, Payal Jain, Rina Dhaka and Varun Bahl.

Soni was the first Indian designer to be invited to showcase his collection at the Olympus Fashion Week in New York. He has also exhibited his collection at the London Fashion Week and Tranoi in Paris. He was chosen by the Government of India to showcase his collection during the Millennium celebrations of Khajuraho in 2000.
