Anytime snacks

Make these tasty snacks and forget midnight forays to the kitchen



HUNGRY KYA? Have some snacks

These easy-to-make finger foods are an ideal tea-time snack.

Scones

Ingredients

Flour: 1 1/4 cups

Powdered sugar: 1/4 cup

Cold butter: 1/4 cup

Buttermilk: 1/4 cup

Baking powder: 1 tsp

Baking soda: 1/4 tsp

Salt: 1/4 tsp

Plain sugar granules: 1 tbsp

Method

Preheat oven to 180 degrees Celsius.

Sift flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt in a bowl. Add powdered sugar and mix well.

Cut in the cold butter cubes into the mixture to resemble coarse crumbs.

Add buttermilk and roll into a soft dough.

Shape dough into a 9 inch round on an ungreased cookie sheet and score into triangular wedges.

Freeze dough for two hours for the scones to retain shape while baking.

Remove dough from the freezer and slice into triangles with floured knife.

Place scones two inches apart on an ungreased cookie sheet. Sprinkle sugar crystals on top.

Bake for 22 minutes at 180 degrees Celsius.

Serve warm with the jam of your choice.

Idli fry

Leftover idlis can be sliced lengthwise into 1 inch strips and deep fried till golden brown. Serve immediately with ketchup. Kids will love this!

Chappathy cuts

Leftover chappathies can be cut into small diamond shaped pieces with a pair of kitchen scissors and deep fried till golden brown. Store in air-tight containers.
