To celebrate the 59th Republic Day, Oxford Bookstore on Trichy Road has a story telling session on the significance of India being a Republic.
The storytelling will happen on January 26 between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. at the Cha Bar.

Beauty pageant
Miss Cotton City 2008 will be held on January 27 at Corporation Kalaiarangam. The winners will be chosen after five rounds.
The judges are film director RV Udaya Kumar, Lijo of Pavizham Jewellery and Christine Justin, faculty of Nirmala College.

German film
Goethe Zentrum, Coimbatore, will screen a German film Der neunte Tag (The Nineth Day) on January 26 at 6 p.m. at Gedee Auditorium on Avanashi Road.
Entry is free, and there is no age restriction.
The film, with a run time of 97 minutes, is directed by Volker Schlöndorff.
The film talks about a Luxembourgian priest Henri Kremer who was granted nine days’ leave from the concentration camp where he was imprisoned.
Documentary on Chaplin
Konangal Film Society will screen a documentary on Charlie Chaplin, ‘Charlie: The Life and Art of Charles Chaplin (2003)’ on January 27 (Sunday), at Ashwin Hospital Auditorium, at 5.45 p.m. It is a tribute to cinema’s first icon, on
his 30th death anniversary, which fell in December 2007.
It is directed and written by Richard Schickel.
With a run time of 133 minutes, the film comes with English sub-titles.
