Remembering the Sultan”, a literary symposium on the life and works of acclaimed Malayalam writer Vaikom Muhammad Basheer, will be organised on January 27, 2.30 p.m., at the Asan Memorial Association, Cochin House, 1, Anderson Road, Chennai 6.

The symposium is part of “Under the Mangosteen Tree”, an ongoing festival to celebrate the centenary of the legendary novelist. It is presented by Perch, a city-based performance collective.

Writers and film makers will participate in an interactive session on Basheer’s works and its translations. It will be followed by the screening of M. A. Rahman’s award winning docu-film “Basheer the Man.”

A music concert “Mangosteen Melodies” will be presented on January 27, 7. 30 p.m., at the Museum Theatre. It will feature the favourites from Basheer’s collection of over a hundred gramophone records. Well-known singers will render the songs.
