Prakriti Foundation’s annual Tree of Life Festival is back



An attraction Puppets tell interesting tales

Prakriti Foundation’s Tree of Life Festival 2008, titled “Nature, Chennai, US”, conducted annually, enables us to connect to trees and the environment through art, story, performance and workshops. Several events have been planned between January 28 and February 5. On January 28, stories of the Mahatma will be narrated and charka spinning demonstrated at Besant Theosophical School, Shankara Vidyashramam and Balamandir. Then there will be an international puppet show “Pocusueno” from Spain held in association with Ishara Puppet Theatre Trust and Teamwork Films, New Delhi, at 12 noon for children and at 7 p.m. for the public at the Museum Theatre.

On January 29, the charka message will be taken to Mrs. YGP School, Padma Seshadri School (TP Road), Vidyodaya and Navbharath Matriculation School. Then there will be a puppet show by Briggitte Revelli at the Alliance Francaise at 12 noon and an international puppet show “Rutinas” from Spain in association with Ishara Puppet Theatre Trust and Teamwork Films at 10.30 a.m. and 7 p.m. at the Museum Theatre. Apparao Galleries, Wallace Gardens, will be the venue of a talk titled “Tree Temple” at 7 p.m.

On January 30, there will be storytelling sessions at Sri Sankara Senior Secondary School, PSBB Millennium School and Sankalp. A puppet show will be held at the SOS Children’s Village, Tambaram, at 6 p.m. There will be a talk by Murad Ismaili on “Nature and Architecture” at Apparao Galleries at 7 p.m.

On January 31, there will be storytelling sessions at Sri Sankara Secondary School, Mylai Karpagavalli School, Bala Vidya Mandir and Avvai Home.

On February 1, there will be story telling sessions at AMM School, Besant Theosophical School and Vasantham Special School. Saplings of trees used in Ayurveda will be planted in Wallace Gardens by the children of Asan Memorial School. Six public sculptures will also be unveiled. On February 2, there will be a tree walk with Nizhal at Guindy National Park at 7 a.m. and a sand sculpture contest on Eliot’s Beach at 4 p.m. On February 3, the Madras Naturalists Society organises bird watching from dawn to dusk. On February 5, 7 p.m., the world premiere of “The Absent Lover” by Preeti Vasudevan’s dance theatre company Thresh will be presented at the Chinmaya Heritage Centre, Harrington Road.
