MY KIND OF PLACE
SUDHA CHANDRAN
Charmed by Chennai
Believe it or not, since childhood I had a great fascination for Chennai. Born and bred in Mumbai, I longed to visit this culturally rich city. People generally talk about its sultry weather, but I can only think of classical music and dance, Kanchipuram saris and gold jewellery. If your heart is where art is, you will always look forward to being in Chennai, especially in December. Also, I reserve all my shopping energies for my Chennai trips and invariably leave with bulging bags.
Scenic splendour
I was smitten by the Banff’s (in Canada) beauty. I went there with my husband and felt like I was looking at a colourful canvas. Mountains, hot springs, not a speck of dirt anywhere, no screeching vehicles, no noisy people…ideal for a short break from your frenetic routine. But I cannot be for long at such idyllic places. It scares me. Being a Mumbaikar, I like to be amid people and prefer activity-filled days.
Fussy foodie
When it comes to restaurants and dishes, I am extremely choosy. Only vegetarian food for me. While travelling abroad when I don’t get my kind of vegetarian dishes, I survive on French fries and bread. If it’s a long trip, I get so fed up with bread that once back in India, I don’t go anywhere near a loaf for months.
