Keeping pace
Federation of Automobile Dealers Association of India’s biennial event, Auto Summit 2008, was held recently in the Capital. This time the theme was “Auto Retail: Challenges of Sustaining Growth and Keeping Pace”. The event assumed i
mportance in the backdrop of the current slowdown in the automobile sector. The summit was addressed by industry leaders, academics and Government officials. One of the major issues discussed was the shaky nature of the manpower employment in the fields of sales, service and spare parts. About the growth of the automobile industry, N.K. Rattan of HMS said, “The car industry is bound to grow by six times in another 12 years. The present statistics show a data of 5 cars per thousand people but in few years it could be 50 cars per thousand people.”
Commenting on the possibility of two wheelers facing a threat from small cars like Nano, Anil Dua from Hero Honda said, “Two wheelers will remain unaffected by low-budget cars, as those craving thrill and fun will always opt for a two wheeler bike rather than a 1 lakh car. Still, there are chance of prices of two-wheelers coming down.”
