Voice your views: Jallikattu

Public opinion

The traditional ‘jallikattu’ is barbaric. The torturing of the bull by a mob in the name of showing valour is inhuman in a civilised society. The youths can show valour against cases of atrocities against women and crime instead by taming the bull. Why should jallikattu be a part of our custom? A strong social opinion against jallikattu is the need of the hour. The people must be made aware of the flip side of the sport. The package offered to foreign tourists and others can have the usual charm with bullock cart race and others. The Government, instead of appealing to the Supreme Court to lift the ban, should have tried to convince the public instead. It is a foolish attempt to make ourselves exposed to danger knowing the vulnerability beforehand. India, known for its human bond with animals, should not show cruelty towards them.

A.Naren,

Madurai.
