Voice your views: Jallikattu

Fool-proof

Jallikattu is Tamil Nadu’s famous event. In fact, Alanganallur jallikattu is world famous. This type of heroic game is not found in any other country, except Spain. In the Sangam era, a lad had to tame a bull to be given in marriage to a girl. There is also the story of the famous Vellayathevan, the chieftain of Kattabomman, who tamed the bull in Sayalkudi and married Vellayammal. I have witnessed the famous ``manju virattu” at Alanganallur and enjoyed the thrill and heroism of the youth. The heroic game should not be stopped. Government needs to take all precautions with fool-proof arrangements. This game reveals the heroism of the youth.

K.Sankaranarayanan,

Madurai.
