My face is extremely dark compared to the rest of my body. There are pimple marks and blackheads near and on my nose. How do I make my skin soft and fair again? — Radha
Once or twice a week, mix rice powder with rose water and apply it on the areas with blackheads and pimple marks. Do not apply it on the pimples. Rub it gently on the skin using circular movements. Leave it on for a few minutes before washing it off with water. Twice a week, mix one teaspoon each of curd and honey, and 4 teaspoons of oatmeal and egg white. Apply it on the entire face and wash it off after 20 to 30 minutes. Mix the liquid ingredients gradually to get the right consistency. It should be a thick paste, which does not drip.
I have a lot of boils on my forehead. How do I get rid of them? — Niki
The boils may be acne. Check for dandruff, as acne can occur on the forehead due to an oily scalp or dandruff. Half an hour before a shampoo, apply the juice of a lemon on your scalp, especially near the hairline. After washing your face in the morning, apply an astringent lotion on your forehead. Mix a little rose water with sandalwood paste and apply it daily on the entire forehead, washing it off after 15 minutes with plain water. Apply sandalwood paste, only on the eruptions, daily.
I am 38 years old and have dark circles around my eyes. My sister and mother also have them. Is it hereditary? I apply castor oil once a fortnight. Suggest a home remedy. — Chitra
Yes, dark circles could be hereditary. Care for the area around your eyes daily. Instead of castor oil, apply pure almond oil sparingly around the eyes and massage it lightly on the skin for a minute under each eye using your ring finger. Leave it on for 15 minutes and then wipe it off gently with moist cotton wool. You can also mix cucumber juice and potato juice in equal quantities. Apply this under your eyes daily for 20 minutes. Wash it off with water. Get adequate sleep and ask your doctor to prescribe vitamin and mineral supplements.
I have blackheads on the sides of my nose and on it. It is spreading. Suggest a home remedy. — Vijaya
Blackheads occur on oily areas of the skin. After washing your face in the morning, wipe the oily and blackhead prone areas with an astringent lotion. Mix rice powder with rose water and apply it on these areas. Rub it gently on the skin with circular movements. Leave it on for a few minutes and wash it off with plain water. Three times a week, mix multani mitti with rose water and it apply on the area. Wash it off when it dries. Or, you can mix oatmeal with egg white and apply it on the area thrice a week, washing it off when it dries.
I love leaving my hair loose. But it does not look tidy after a while. — Neha
Healthy hair looks smooth and manageable. Wash your hair at least three times a week, especially if it is oily. Rinsing it well with water is important, to get rid of all the soapy residue. After a shampoo, have a tea-water-lemon rinse. It adds shine and smoothness to the hair. Make tea-water by boiling used tea leaves again in enough water. After boiling you should have 4 to 5 cups water. Cool, strain and add the juice of a lemon to it. Use it as a last rinse. Weekly henna treatments also help. Diet is important. Include fresh fruits, sprouts, salads, leafy green vegetables, soya bean and curd in your diet.
