LACED WITH WIT From “Ghalib in New Delhi”
Mukti India, a Chennai-based NGO, involved in providing assistance to physically challenged people, presents a hilarious Hindi play “Ghalib in New Delhi”, which will be staged by Pierrot’s Troupe at The Music Academy on February 8.
The event is a fund-raiser for Multi’s artificial limb projects.
Scripted and directed by Dr. M. Sayeed Alam, “Ghalib in New Delhi” is among the most popular and critically-acclaimed plays in recent times. It is an uproarious political satire revolving around the great Urdu poet Mirza Ghalib’s comeback to his beloved city. The play, laced with hilarious and witty jokes, mockingly reveals the follies and foibles of today’s life.

Talking about the play and the cause, Meena Dadha, founder, Mukti India, said, “Pierrot’s Troupe has 220 shows of “Ghalib in New Delhi” to its credit. This is the first time the troupe is performing in Chennai.”
Formed in 1989, the Delhi-based theatre group, attempts to depict on stage the reality of life with all its nuances. With more than 1,400 performances to its credit, it has won acclaim for its comedy, musical, monologue and solo productions in various languages.
Founded in 1986, Mukti’s objective is to provide free artificial upper and lower limbs to deserving amputees and polio victims. Besides, the organisation conducts camps regularly across the globe to train individuals to manufacture and fit custom-made artificial limbs.
