Enter the Dragon

The annual Stella Maris College play will be held from February 4 to 7

The annual play of the Stella Maris College will be held from February 4 to 7 (6.30 p.m.) at Sivagami Pethachi auditorium. This year’s play is titled “Dragon”. It is written by Evgeny Schwartz and translated into English by Yuri Mac hkasov. Schwartz is remembered as one of the most original figures in 20th Century Russian theatre. He also wrote screenplays, the most famous of which was for “Don Quixote” (1956).

The play is set in a small town that has been under the rule of a despotic dragon for several years. The residents get accustomed to the dragon and have worked out an arrangement with him. So he keeps a relatively calm watch over them. When a stranger arrives in the town he is shocked to see people’s calm acceptance of totalitarianism. He challenges the dragon to a duel…

The annual college play is a student venture. It seeks to identify and promote theatrical and managerial talent in students. The entire production is handled by students in collaboration with an eminent director. This year V. Balakrishnan, who is actively involved in professional performances and special projects through theatre Nisha has worked with the students.

Tickets are priced Rs. 200 and 100.
