A smooth ride

If Nano is anything to go by, looks like private transport in India is becoming cheaper by the day. The day is not far when it will be far more affordable to own and drive a private vehicle than shuttling across the city in public transport buses, autorickshaws or local trains. A step in this direction was taken by Global Automobiles, which launched a 100 CC motorbike, Rock 100, in the Capital recently. The bike is priced at, believe it or not, a mere Rs.19,990, which takes us back to the days when ignition scooters were launched in India. Interestingly, the bike is claimed to be cheaper than most scooters on the road, and certainly more affordable than mobikes!

High mileage

If Nano is considered the common man’s car, Rock 100 is common man’s bike. It promises an amazing 115 kms per litre mileage. The bike comes with a four-stroke engine, electronic self start and kick start facility and is available in four colours: red, blue, black and silver. And it can be purchased at a down payment of merely Rs.5000!

The launch of the vehicle was announced by Pranab Mukherjee, Union Minister, External Affairs, Government of India, in the presence of Members of Parliament Tariq Anwar and Anil Basu. The ministers also unveiled a scooter, UFO 0150, at the same function.

Speaking on the occasion, Mukherjee said, “New launches are being made every day, which is a sign of a growing economy. It indicates a new and young India, and this prompted me to get associated with this launch. I salute the spirit.”

UFO 0150 is a new generation 150 CC scooter with a four-stroke engine, electronic self start and kick start facility. It has a metal chassis, off course side covers and front panels made of ABS.

Another interesting feature is that it has a mobile ringing indicator. Available at an ex-showroom (Delhi) price of Rs.34,990, the scooter is also designed and developed by Global Automobiles, who have earlier launched the 125 CC bike Expression and Expression Plus.
