Show-time The judges at the launch of RC Live

Isn’t it surprising that in a country where Hindi is the national language, there are barely any music bands that sing in Hindi? It is this thought that laid the foundation RC Live, a nationwide talent hunt by Radio City to find India’s b est band. It was launched recently at Le Meridien in New Delhi, by Rana Barua, National Head, Marketing, in the presence of eminent personalities like Palash Sen of Euphoria, Subir Malik of Parikrama and Vaibhav Rao of EMI, who will judge the bands.

“This is the first time that a talent hunt is being conducted on radio. On top of that, it’s the search for a Hindi band,” said Rana.

Schedule

The RC Live is divided into three regions, North including Delhi, Lucknow and Jaipur; South having Bangalore, Hyderabad and Chennai and Mumbai; Baroda, Ahemdabad, Surat, Nagpur and Pune in West region. The participating bands have to send a CD featuring their original compositions. The judges will shortlist five bands from each region, which will be followed by three regional concerts in Bangalore, Delhi and Mumbai. The songs will be aired on Radio City. The final three bands will perform in Delhi and the winner will be selected by the judges as well as the audiences through a voting system.

The winner bags a one album contract with EMI. Palash Sen is very upbeat about the hunt. ““Live bands are the future of the music industry. Many Pakistani bands have performed and made money in India. So, now it’s time for us to promote Hindi bands which are better appreciated by the listeners. We will judge the bands on the basis of their passion, originality of their compositions and the x-factor, which will make them stand apart from the crowd.”

Subir Malik reinstated the fact. “The talent hunts on television channels create a band, but in this case the bands already exist. The compatibility among the band members will be more. If the winning band has the potential to survive, it will sustain even after the talent hunt. ”

The evening also saw an electric performance by Euphoria.

The hunt started end of January and the results will be announced on February 29. EMI will also launch a compilation CD titled, Best of RC Live, later this year.
